In September 2017, I attended Frontiers in Optics (FiO) in Washington DC. It was one of the most fun-filled conferences I attended so far, as I got to see a lot of old friends whom I met during my undergraduate years. I love how the conferences bring people together after a long time, and you can just pick up where you left off and discover new places together.
But more importantly, I presented the following papers;
E. Sahin, K. J. A. Ooi, C. E. Png, and D. T. H. Tan, "On-chip large dispersion using cladding-modulated Bragg gratings." Front. Opt. 2017 Part F66-F, FM3A.4 (2017).
E. Sahin, K. J. A. Ooi, G. F. R. Chen, D. K. T. Ng, C. E. Png, and D. T. H. Tan, "Enhanced optical nonlinearities in ultra-silicon-rich nitride photonic crystal waveguides." Front. Opt. 2017, JTu3A.35 (2017).
You can access the full texts through links. The first one was an oral presentation, whereas the second one was a poster presentation accompanied by a rapid-fire oral. Rapid-fire oral presentations are given by selected the poster presenters, it is a 5 minute presentation at the exhibition hall. I found this format quite engaging.
I am grateful to the Incubic/Milton Chang Travel Grant I received for my participation in FiO.
